Exploring Lisbon, Portugal – Day 1
My 8-hour overnight flight to London was restful. I had an entire row to myself, so I made it into a row bed. Not the most comfortable bed, but much better than sleeping in the upright position. I find the overnight flight also helps with reducing if not eliminating jet lag for me.
London Heathrow Airport (LHR) has several premium lounges and I have access to eight of them with my priority pass card. I was able to get into the closest one after going though the security check point. Plaza premium lounge in Terminal 2 did not disappoint. WiFi internet, free buffet breakfast bar, well stocked bar.
Is 12:30 pm too early for pinot grigio? I vote no, as I enjoy a glass, cheers.
My flight into Lisbon arrived on time but it took over 2 hours to get to my hostel, aka my home for the next 3 nights. As I always so in a new city, I use the public transportation available. Even though Uber at 9 Euros was tempting. I mapped out my trip using Google maps, the metro took no time to figure out.
After waiting for the train for more than 20 minutes, we were told the train wasn’t running. Bummer. Good thing that I purchased a 24 hour ticket that works for the bus too. Remapped my route again with the help of Google maps and long story short, I made it to the hostel in one piece.
I received a very warm welcome at the hostel. Shortly afterwards, I met Peter from USA and Nena from Belgium in my room. A quick reminder of why I choose to stay in hostels. You’re saving money plus I get to meet really cool people from home and all over the world.
We had dinner together at the hostel, and met even more people. After dinner, we went out for drinks. It was a long but eventful night!
